AthletEdge Restraint Goal

AthletEdge is designed to allow for full and consistent material thickness to the edge of the pavement.

AthletEdge helps prevent broken edges typical with unrestrained athletic installations and provides an affordable maintainable, finished edge.

*Application Overview

  • AthletEdge is anchored into the asphalt base. Anchoring choice (see below) will be dependent on age, hardness, thickness and composition of asphalt base (binder) course.
  • Asphalt base (binder) course is laid on asphalt base following AthletEdge installation instructions.
  • Athletic Surface is laid on base (binder) course following AthletEdge installation instructions.
  • Weep holes in the sidewall of AthletEdge are located _” from the top of the restraint allowing drainage from the athletic surface.
  • Semi-compact backfill material adjacent to the completed installation providing additional support.

*Intended as an overview only, please refer to specifier/ manufacturer technical specifications.

Anchoring
Note - In all cases, it is desirable to use mechanical vs. manual anchoring. Composition, age, hardness, thickness and regional asphalt variables will guide anchoring method. The following are guidelines:

  • Anchor at ends of each section in addition to guidelines indicated below.
  • New, softer or thinner asphalt - 3/8” x 10” spiral steel spikes (12” on center) typical.
  • Older, harder, thicker asphalt - Hilti DX A41 Fully Automatic Powder Actuated Tool is desirable where sufficient hold can be obtained. 1-1/2” to 2-1/2” nail (12” on center) with appropriate charge is recommended. Contact Hilti customer service at 800.879.8000 for details.

AthletEdge Product:
AthletEdge product (height) is determined by the combined depth of the asphalt and athletic surface.
Example: Combined depth of surfaces is 2-1/2” = 2-1/2” AT.
Weep holes are located _” from the top of the restraint, facilitating drainage from the athletic surface.
