Permaloc was proud to supply edging for the green roof at the Daniel F. And Ada L. Rice plant-conservation science center at the Chicago Botanic Garden.  The center is a 37,000 square-foot facility that includes laboratories for the garden’s research scientists, a plant-science library, and a seed-banking facility.

The 20,000 square-foot green roof is used as a laboratory by the garden’s scientists to research and determine the best plant material and growing media for green roofs in the Midwest.  The roof is accessible to the garden’s nearly 800,000 annual visitors.

The roof is composed of 4 to 8 inches of plant-growing media over water retention/drainage panels, over insulation, and over waterproof membrane.  Permaloc’s GeoEdge green roof edge restraint product was used as edging  to divide and separate the various planting areas.  Two sizes of the aluminum green roof edging were used for the various soil depths.
